Sunita Williams

Sunita Williams, an American with Indian Origin (Her father is born in India and origins from Gujarat, India) became lastest Astronout on NASA's space flights. Something to be proud of for many of the families. I hope this pushes the envelop bit further for education of Woman in Gujarat as well as promotion of technical education in Gujarat (It is probably one of the richest state with poorest of educational facilities in terms of Technology, Research and Engineering).

I do agree that Sunita Williams' date with the ISS is great news for India as a whole, but how much can it help in improving the status of women in India is unclear.
Remember, she achieved this feat in a foreign country and not in India. It may help a bit if we give the example of late Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams, but it would be foolish to expect any significant change in the attitude of the society towards women in India and elsewhere.....

I agree with Anil's criticism. Indian folks have been very good at saying "Oh, that woman did so good!" but what they are actually saying is "We can't allow our woman to do that yet!". That needs to change for better.
