Bin Laden's driver has been convicted of war crimes. One thing that needs to be understood is that, there is a major difference between American Culture and one in Middle East and South Asia. In these regions, one would not be alive in certain scenarios without having allegiance to one or other war-lord.
Even in so called peaceful region of Andhra Pradesh, there are areas where not having allegiances to one of the politicians (well these politicians have been known to have personal army... if not full fledged terrorist operations) would mean not having job opportunities, or business opportunities and sometimes death.
Deed of Al queda are not comparable to what these politician-crime lords to. But both have roots in same system of clans, factions, and allegiances to the clan-lords.
